Purpose

The code of conduct is a document that supports the fundamental goal of Melbourne Megagames in fostering an inclusive and positive culture at events and between players. This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behaviour, in order to provide our games in a safe and welcoming environment.

 

This code requires players to:

• Agree to abide by the code of conduct

• Agree to abide by any additional requirements set by venues hosting a megagame

• Acknowledge that Melbourne Megagames may take disciplinary action against a player if there is a breach of the code of conduct or any other directives of the event coordinators.

 

Values and Conduct

These principles underpin the expected conduct of players. Melbourne Megagames demonstrates its commitment to these values.

 

Respect and Inclusivity

Melbourne Megagames seeks to treat everyone with courtesy and to be considerate towards others in all circumstances; to create an environment that promotes mutual respect and a community that is accessible to all players. Melbourne Megagames promotes the wellbeing and safety of players at all times.

• Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all participants, regardless of their identity or ability. Disagreement is not an excuse for disrespect. 

• Be aware of the specialised needs of others. Understand that other players may be at different levels from you.

• Respect the effort that has gone into a megagame or event from an organisational and a design perspective.

• Respect the privacy and engagement levels of players and organisers, and seek consent to make contact outside of a megagame or community platform. 

 

Integrity

Melbourne Megagames seeks to foster a creative and authentic experience for our games.

• Adhere to the rules of the game.

• Leave personal biases and grievances at the door.

• Prioritise your relationship with your team, especially if you don’t know them outside of the context of the game.

 

Responsibility

Melbourne Megagames seeks to be consistent in fulfilling any tasks and roles required of players and event organisers in a timely manner and to a satisfactory standard.

• Arrive to the game prepared and having read the provided materials.

• Take responsibility for your own behaviour and be receptive to feedback. 

• When another player makes a play that hurts you, try not to take it personally. It is the responsibility of any player to make the best moves they can think of for themselves or for their team, whether it hurts you specifically or not.

• If you have an issue, let us know as you feel it is safe to do so. 

 

Consequences

If a participant engages in unacceptable behaviour, Melbourne Megagames may take any action we deem appropriate, up to and including:

• A reprimand or warning of violating the code of conduct.

• A request for an apology, private or public.

• Monitoring of your behaviour at events or on our community platforms. 

• Temporary or permanent suspension of your ability to attend Melbourne Megagames’ events or participation on our platforms. 

• Your expulsion from an event or from our platforms.

• A report to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities.

 

This action may be taken immediately or in the future.

 

This code of conduct is enforced by the directors, who are available at all Melbourne Megagames events, as well as by email and on our social and community platforms. The directors will take any reports or concerns seriously, and will evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis. Reports may be requested from those who feel they were negatively impacted by the actions of another, or by people who witnessed inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour.

 

We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse as much as reasonably possible. Melbourne Megagames event organisers and control will only be told the minimum information needed to support this code of conduct and enforce removals, restrictions, or monitoring for future violations.

 

All determinations of appropriate or inappropriate behaviour are at Melbourne Megagames' sole discretion. Melbourne Megagames retains the right to issue sanctions for any reason, and are not obligated to provide the reasons. The decisions of Melbourne Megagames in this regard will be final.

 

The above policies may be revised at any time by Melbourne Megagames and are non-negotiable.
